CANADA’S LARGEST CITY

Toronto

Toronto: skyscrapers and street artists

The largest city in Canada is also the capital of the province of Ontario. At night, the lights of the skyline are reflected in Lake Ontario, on whose shores the city lies. The flashing antenna of the CN Tower rises above everything. The spherical observation deck just below it is Toronto’s main attraction. Nowhere else will you get a better view of the city and the lake – so why not enjoy your dinner up here? The 360-degree restaurant is reasonably priced and boasts the highest wine cellar in the world. No stay in Toronto is complete without a visit to the CN Tower.

Just as spectacular is Kensington Market on Spadina Avenue, Toronto’s hippest neighbourhood. On King Street, one fashionable bar and trendy restaurant follows another, while Graffiti Alley on Queen Street captures the city’s lifestyle like no other place. Toronto is a vibrant city, and some of its neighbourhoods are reminiscent of San Francisco’s hippie style.

The US border is just an hour and a half’s drive from Toronto. In between lie the famous Niagara Falls. Even from a distance you can hear the roar of the water and see the dense spray rising. Along the falls, a kind of entertainment town has sprung up, with casinos, luxury hotels and a funfair atmosphere. Beyond the falls lie charming towns such as Niagara-on-the-Lake, surrounded by vineyards and golf courses.
