Among Namibia’s most spectacular natural wonders are the mighty ochre sand dunes of Sossusvlei. Rising up to 320 metres high, timeless in the heart of the world’s oldest desert, they offer an unforgettable panorama. When the sun rises over these vast mountains of sand, the dunes glow in shimmering shades of red and orange. The solitude seems almost boundless, and suddenly everything feels so fleeting. The white vlei, where dead camel thorn trees create a surreal landscape, stands in striking contrast to the red sand and the deep blue sky. Not far away lies Sesriem Canyon, a gorge 30 metres deep and three kilometres long, carved into the rock by the Tsauchab River over millions of years.
