The Whalecoast begins just outside Cape Town and stretches along the Atlantic Ocean as far as Quoin Point. The region owes its name to the southern right whales that give birth to their young in its sheltered waters from July to November. Hermanus is considered the best and most famous place in the world for watching whales from land. If you want to get even closer, take a boat trip out to sea and see these giants at close range – a wonderful experience!
The Garden Route stretches from Hermanus in the Western Cape to Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape – a must for anyone travelling through South Africa. Small towns such as Knysna, Mossel Bay, George and Plettenberg Bay offer everything your heart could desire. With its many beautiful bays, the green coastline invites you to stroll and explore, and delights with long, fine sandy beaches, towering cliffs and wide estuaries.
