LAGOON TOWN ON THE INDIAN OCEAN

Travel to Knysna

HOLIDAYS IN KNYSNA

Today Knysna can best be described as a lively holiday destination. Although the town still lives mainly from fishing and the timber industry, tourism is becoming increasingly important – and the town centre is correspondingly bustling these days.

Victorian houses shape the townscape along and around the main street, here and there giving way to modern new buildings. In the centre you will find several shops and restaurants serving oysters from the local oyster farm.

Outside the town the holiday business is booming, with more and more hotels and holiday homes springing up. If you are travelling the Garden Route and would like to stop in Knysna, it is best to look for accommodation outside the town centre.

Close to the resort town lie some of the finest golf courses, which are always worth a visit – just think of the Conrad Pezula and the Fancourt Resort, home to three of the best courses in Southern Africa!

Knysna also hosts the Timber Festival for Lumberjacks (around Easter) and the famous Oyster Festival (early July).
