Itinerary
Great Western Explorer - Perth to Darwin

Day 1 Perth – Cervantes (210 km) Pick up your hire car and drive to the famous limestone formations of the Pinnacles.

Days 2 - 3 Cervantes - Kalbarri (380 km) Today an interesting drive along the Indian Ocean Drive takes you to Kalbarri.

Days 4 - 5 Kalbarri National Park This day is yours to explore the beauty of the national park and its impressive gorge landscape.

Day 6 Monkey Mia (400 km) Continue along the coast to Monkey Mia and the Shark Bay Marine Park.

Days 7 - 8 Monkey Mia – Carnarvon (360 km) Today’s stage takes you to Carnarvon, Australia’s centre for fruit and vegetable growing.

Days 9 - 10 Carnarvon – Coral Bay (240 km) You drive along the glorious coast to Coral Bay, the country’s north-westernmost point.

Days 11 - 13 Coral Bay This day is yours to discover the splendour of Ningaloo Reef. Whatever you do, don’t miss a snorkelling or diving excursion.

Day 14 Coral Bay – Karratha – Port Hedland (770 km) On the eighth day you drive to the regional business centre of Karratha. The next day you follow the North West Coastal Highway to Port Hedland – an impressive port town.

Day 15 Port Hedland – Broome (620 km) This fairly long stage brings you to the pearling town of Broome, gateway to the magical Kimberley region.

Days 16 - 17 Broome – Fitzroy Crossing (400 km) From here on you are in the famous Kimberley region. This part of Australia is 10 times larger than Switzerland and has only 20,000 inhabitants.

Days 18 - 19 Fitzroy Crossing – Halls Creek (300 km) Before continuing your journey, we recommend a boat trip through Geikie Gorge (at extra cost). Shortly before Halls Creek you can visit the ‘China Wall’.

Days 20 - 21 Halls Creek – Kununurra (380 km) You drive across the vast agricultural plains, also known as ‘Cattle Country’ because of their many cattle stations. Make the most of your free day in Kununurra with a scenic flight over the Bungle Bungles (at extra cost).

Day 22 Kununurra – Katherine (520 km) You cross the border between Western Australia and the Northern Territory and reach Katherine via the Keep & Gregory National Parks. Boat trip included.
