Day 1 Melbourne – Warrnambool You set off along the Great Ocean Road, a winding coastal road that ranks among the most epic journeys in the world. Over 240 kilometres you can admire limestone cliffs such as the Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge and London Bridge. You pass through World Heritage-listed rainforest, along unspoilt coastal bays and through sleepy little towns such as Lorne and Apollo Bay. This evening you meet your fellow travellers for a welcome dinner.
Day 2 Warrnambool – Naracoorte The journey takes you through Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve, an extinct volcanic crater where you can see emus and koalas. More volcanic history awaits in Mt Gambier, where the Blue Lake fills the crater. In the Coonawarra wine region you taste world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz or Merlot. Alexandra Cave at Naracoorte, your last adventure of the day, is a labyrinth of delicate, needle-like stalactites and massive, sinuous columns.
Days 3–4 Naracoorte – Kangaroo Island You cross the picturesque Fleurieu Peninsula with its rolling hills, rugged rocky peaks and sandy beaches to the pretty village of Victor Harbor and on to Cape Jervis. From there you take the ferry to Kangaroo Island, a crossing of about 45 minutes. Australia's third-largest island is also known as the ‘zoo without fences’ thanks to the diversity of its wildlife. The next day, your exploration of this 145 km-long island takes you to Flinders Chase National Park, with Admirals Arch and its large colony of wild fur seals, the Cape du Couedic lighthouse and the spectacular Remarkable Rocks. At Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary you meet kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas and possums, before walking with a ranger to a sea lion colony on the beach at Seal Bay. You end the day with a tasting at Kangaroo Island's only brewery.
Day 5 Kangaroo Island – Adelaide Back on the mainland, your stay continues with the discovery of Adelaide. After a city tour you have free time to explore the ‘City of Churches’ with its stylish old buildings, well-kept parks and botanic garden.
Day 6 Barossa Valley Today you visit the Adelaide Hills, Hahndorf, Australia's oldest German settlement, and the Barossa Valley. You enjoy the fine cuisine and excellent wines for which this part of the state is renowned. On the way back to Adelaide you pass through picturesque countryside where stone houses mingle with olive groves. To round off this unforgettable day, you enjoy a farewell dinner at the city's highest restaurant, which offers spectacular views.
Day 7 Adelaide The tour ends after breakfast and you have some free time until your transfer to the airport.
