Itinerary
The Ghan Expedition

Day 1 Darwin – Katherine Heading south towards Katherine, you enjoy a gourmet lunch. In Katherine, visit the impressive Nitmiluk Gorge, which can be explored by boat or seen from above on a helicopter flight (at extra cost). You can also visit a cattle farm or the Cutta Cutta Cave system, home to a rich Indigenous culture.
Day 2 Katherine – Alice Springs Enjoy a hearty breakfast before exploring Alice Springs. You can take an ‘off-road’ e-bike tour, visit the historic Telegraph Station and the Royal Flying Doctor Service, take an excursion into the West MacDonnell Ranges or meet Australian wildlife at the Desert Park. On your return, round off the evening with dinner under the starry sky at the Alice Springs Telegraph Station.
Day 3 Alice Springs – Coober Pedy After sunrise in the remote settlement of Manguri, you head to Coober Pedy, the opal-mining town where more than half the residents live underground. A day of discovery and an underground gourmet lunch await you here. Visit the majestic Breakaways or the underground town, learn more about the history of mining or book an optional scenic flight over the Painted Hills and Lake Eyre.
Day 4 Coober Pedy – Adelaide In the Flinders Ranges you witness a spectacular change of scenery as the orange Outback gives way to the green fields of South Australia, before your unforgettable journey ends in Adelaide.

Australia's Great Train JourneysDiscover the vast expanses of Australia on one of the most famous train journeys. Experience the second-longest train journey in the world, linking the Pacific coast with the Indian Ocean. Or follow in the footsteps of the Afghans who, in the 19th century, achieved a pioneering feat by establishing the railway line linking Adelaide to the relentlessly dry heart of the desert, Alice Springs, and on to Darwin.

Gold Service/SuiteEach cabin is equipped with a wardrobe, reading lamp, fold-down table, mirror, 240V power socket, music channels and toiletries. The seats convert into beds with sheets, pillow and duvet. Double cabins have a shower, WC and washbasin and are fitted with two single beds, one above the other like bunks. Single cabins have a single bed and only a washbasin (shared showers/WCs are at the end of the carriage). Each train also has a Gold Suite with a double (queen) bed, a fold-down upper bed, a table and a seat (price on request). Meals are taken in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant and drinks are served in the Outback lounge.

Gold Premium Service/SuiteThe recently refurbished Gold Premium cabins/suites offer the same facilities as the Gold Service cabins/suites. In addition, you enjoy priority check-in, a separate Gold Premium dining car and Gold Premium lounge, as well as a fourth course at dinner.

Platinum ServiceThe few Platinum Service cabins offer great comfort and generous space. They have a double bed or two single beds, which convert into an attractive lounge during the day, as well as a shower, WC and washbasin. You dine in the Platinum Club dining car. In addition to the Gold Premium Service amenities, you enjoy complimentary transfers and a personal butler throughout the train journey.

Guided excursionsExcursions to a variety of tourist attractions are offered to passengers at scheduled stops. You receive the detailed programme on board the train. Many excursions are already included in the fare (some activities can be pre-booked).

Good to know- Your checked luggage is stored in a separate carriage during the train journey. It is therefore advisable to bring a small travel bag with the essentials on board.
- All trains are non-smoking.
- There is no Wi-Fi on board.
- Other train journeys with the Great Southern and The Overland are available on request.
