Itinerary
Botswana Safari 4x4

Day 1 Maun On arrival in Maun you will be met by a representative of Travel Adventures Botswana and taken to your vehicle. You will receive an introduction to the vehicle as well as detailed documents for your trip. Afterwards you can stock up on provisions for the days ahead. If time allows, you can join a scenic flight over the Okavango Delta – a unique opportunity to see this ecosystem from a completely different perspective. We recommend that you attend the 4x4 driving course so that you are prepared for the road conditions in Botswana (information on request). Camping in Maun.

Days 2 - 3 Moremi Game Reserve After breakfast you drive for around 4 to 6 hours through a fascinating region, the Moremi Game Reserve. This delightful ecosystem of grassland, woodland and lagoons is considered one of the richest in Africa for wildlife and plant life. You will spend two nights in the heart of nature. You head out on game drives early in the morning and late in the afternoon, while the middle of the day is for resting. Camping in Moremi.

Days 4 - 5 Khwai Today you drive to the Khwai region. The journey takes around 4 to 5 hrs, depending on how often you stop along the way to watch wildlife. On the banks of the Khwai River you will come across rare antelope species as well as large herds of elephant and buffalo. Big predators such as leopards, cheetahs and lions are also frequently spotted here. Camping in Khwai.

Days 6 - 7 Savute After breakfast you drive north for around 4 to 6 hours on sand and dirt tracks to the Savute region, which is part of Chobe National Park. Savute is ideal for watching big cats such as lions, and with a little luck you may even spot the rare wild dogs. Another highlight is the Savute Channel, which at times carries water again in places, bringing lush vegetation to the region. Savute is also home to the enigmatic rock paintings of the San and Bushmen. Camping in Savute.

Days 8 - 9 Chobe National Park Once the camping equipment has been packed away, you continue your adventure for around 5 to 6 hours to the next stage, Chobe National Park. The region is famous for its large herds of elephants, giving you the chance to watch these giants both in the water and on land. Camping in Ihaha.

Days 10 - 11 Kasane In the morning you set off on a final game drive in this wildlife-rich region before returning to Kasane to drop off your hire vehicle. End of the trip or individual extension.

Day 12 Makgadikgadi & Nxai Pans extension - Kubu Island / Makgadikgadi If you would like to continue your journey south, you stock up again for the days ahead and reload your vehicle. Then drive south for around 3-4 hours to Nata. Camping at Nata Lodge.

After breakfast you drive for around 4 to 5 hours to the Makgadikgadi Pans, once the largest inland lake, which covered much of northern Botswana. In the middle of an endless expanse lies Kubu Island, a small cluster of rocks and impressive baobabs. Kubu Island is a magical place of almost unreal beauty and of great significance to the local people. Camping on Kubu Island.

Day 13 Makgadikgadi / Nxai Pan Today your drive takes you to the northern part of the pans, to Nxai Pan. The park consists of several fossil salt pans, some of which are part of the dried-up Lake Makgadikgadi. In Nxai Pan you can watch elephants, lions and other animals coming to drink at the waterholes. After the rainy season, mineral-rich vegetation attracts numerous herds of springbok, oryx, zebra, giraffe and wildebeest. The famous baobabs known as ‘Baines Baobab’ are a focal point of the region: seven mighty trees stand on a small island at the edge of Kudiakam Pan. Camping at Nxai Pan.

Day 14 Khumaga / Boteti River Your final stage takes you south to the Boteti River, which forms the western boundary of Makgadikgadi National Park. The river links the green water world of the Okavango Delta with the arid desert of the dried-up Makgadikgadi salt pans. Enjoy the wildlife along the river and marvel one last time at the African night sky around the campfire. Camping in Khumaga.

Day 15 Maun Allow around 2 to 3 hours for the drive to Maun. Return of your vehicle or individual extension.
