Itinerary
The Ghan

Day 1 Adelaide – Marla In Adelaide you board The Ghan for an incredible rail journey through the Australian interior. As the train leaves the city for the Flinders Ranges and beyond, the dramatic changes in the landscape – from pastures to the arid scenery of the Outback – will fire your imagination. Gourmet lunches and dinners prepared by the chef, combining regional character and seasonal flavours, are served on board.
Day 2 Marla – Alice Springs You wake to an unforgettable sunrise over the Outback at Marla, a remote outpost near the Northern Territory border. With red earth beneath your feet and a warming campfire, you have a little time to enjoy this remote corner of the Australian Outback. Take in the magnificent scenery as you continue on to Alice Springs, where you can choose from a range of off-train experiences, such as a tour of Alice Springs, an excursion to the West MacDonnell Ranges or a wildlife encounter at the Desert Park. In the late afternoon you return to the train, where you can freshen up before dinner.
Day 3 Alice Springs – Darwin As you reach the tropical north, the landscape turns into rocky gorges with rivers and canyons. Discover the natural wonder of Nitmiluk Gorge on a boat trip or helicopter flight (at extra cost), or visit a vast cattle station to immerse yourself in the life of Outback locals. After the day's activities you reboard the train and continue on to Darwin, where your journey of discovery by train across Australia comes to an end.

Australia's Great Train JourneysDiscover the vast expanses of Australia on one of the most famous train journeys. Experience the second-longest train journey in the world, linking the Pacific coast with the Indian Ocean. Or follow in the footsteps of the Afghans who, in the 19th century, achieved a pioneering feat by establishing the railway line linking Adelaide to the relentlessly dry heart of the desert, Alice Springs, and on to Darwin.

Gold Service/SuiteEach cabin is equipped with a wardrobe, reading lamp, fold-down table, mirror, 240V power socket, music channels and toiletries. The seats convert into beds with sheets, pillow and duvet. Double cabins have a shower, WC and washbasin and are fitted with two single beds, one above the other like bunks. Single cabins have a single bed and only a washbasin (shared showers/WCs are at the end of the carriage). Each train also has a Gold Suite with a double (queen) bed, a fold-down upper bed, a table and a seat (price on request). Meals are taken in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant and drinks are served in the Outback lounge.

Gold Premium Service/SuiteThe recently refurbished Gold Premium cabins/suites offer the same facilities as the Gold Service cabins/suites. In addition, you enjoy priority check-in, a separate Gold Premium dining car and Gold Premium lounge, as well as a fourth course at dinner.

Platinum ServiceThe few Platinum Service cabins offer great comfort and generous space. They have a double bed or two single beds, which convert into an attractive lounge during the day, as well as a shower, WC and washbasin. You dine in the Platinum Club dining car. In addition to the Gold Premium Service amenities, you enjoy complimentary transfers and a personal butler throughout the train journey.
