Covering around 18,000 square kilometres, the Okavango Delta is the largest inland delta in the world and a unique ecosystem. The Okavango River rises in the highlands of Angola, flows into Botswana and fans out there into countless channels, large and small. Its waterways, wetlands and islands are home to an incomparable variety of wildlife. In the Okavango Delta you experience nature up close. Depending on the water level, safaris are offered on land, but mostly by boat or mokoro (dugout canoe) as well. Activities vary according to region and season – game viewing, tented safaris and adventure trips are all popular. Some safari lodges offer water-based activities only – a unique and peaceful experience.
